Australia is a very large vast place where there is plenty of room for lots of strange things. We saw our share during our almost two months of driving around the country. So a plane flies into a bar... You would have to be one daredevil of an animal to attempt this crossing (we never saw any try it). What kind of produce would be sold at a Pet Store (bananas for monkeys maybe)? Every mall should have these signs posted on the benches! The desert does strange things to the brain so posing with a gigantic beer can, finding Luke Skywalker's spaceship, using your bathroom as a canvas, and dragging a boat (???) into the middle of nowhere seem like normal things to do. (By the way this guy does seem to want to prove that you can take it with you.) We got a chuckle out of the winter gear being sold in Coober Pedy (it was over 40 degrees Celsius). Not only is this puzzle designed for the truly masochistic types, they can't guarantee that at the end of the torture session all the pieces are even there.

We got a real kick out of watching all the yellow clad mail carriers zipping around on their little motorcycles (anybody back home want to deliver the mail this way?). There were plenty of creative mailboxes along the side of the road. The 'arresting officer' was a great way to get the passing motorist's attention (I slowed down) but the idea of having your wine tasting out of a sock was a bit of a turnoff. Melbourne has the most unique way of turning right. Since there are trams scooting up and down the middle of the street, you have to pull as far to the left as you can, wait for the traffic to clear, and then turn to cross all the lanes. We saw plenty of signs warning people to drive on the left in tourist areas. Sadly this has caused quite a few accidents. Now I know why Elaine keeps trying to get me to start drinking coffee! And last but not least (it was a really slow day) the ducks of Kingston would line up at the curb, look both ways, and then (once they had all their ducks in a row) cross the street safely. I wonder if chickens would cross the road this way (and why did they cross it anyway?). I told you it was a slooow day.
