The Greek Crisis seems to preoccupy every waking moment here in Athens but we still found it to be a beautiful city with a warm heart. We met many wonderful people from our favourite waiter in the neighbourhood Greek restaurant who took the time to teach us some Greek words and phrases to the helpful travel agent and comrades who lined up our Greek Island tour for us with lots of advice and plenty of drinks. We spent our two days wandering around the top of the Acropolis circling the majestic Parthenon as it overlooks the rest of the city and exploring the neighbourhoods in the shadow of this imposing rock. From the Temple of Zeus to Hadrian's Gate, there is no shortage of history to visit. We met a courageous solo Chinese tourist named Yolanda as we took pictures at the Parthenon and invited her to join us for supper. It was fascinating yet again to learn about how other cultures view our world and that we all have so much to learn from each other. We'll have to connect with her again when we arrive in Beijing next spring (that suddenly doesn't seem to far off anymore). Hopefully this country will weather this storm and let its people enjoy life again with fewer worries hanging over their heads.
