Santorini Splendor

 

 

It is hard to put the beauty of Santorini into words. Thank goodness there are pictures. But even those don't do justice to the view we had from the front door of our 'cave home'. We just couldn't get enough of it. The sunset capital of the world Oia was magnificent to visit (and photograph) but our home in Imerovigli was every bit as stunning. Breakfasts were outdoors and long. Reading with an occasional glance at the panorama was about as relaxing as it gets. Walking along the cliffs was delightful as we kept discovering more ways to combine white with other colours to decorate your 'stone home'.

The island of Santorini is the remnant of a volcano caldera. This volcano last erupted in 1950 and an earthquake in 1956 led to much of the island being deserted. With tourism prosperity has returned and Santorini is now considered by many to be the number one island destination in the world (Hawaii and a few others might want to disagree with this). We will never forget our too few days on this little piece of paradise.
