Ah Switzerland. Everywhere we turn in this gorgeous country it seems as if they are ready for us. The flower boxes are all overflowing, the cows are placed strategically on every hillside with their bells ringing, and the mountainsides have quaint farmhouses all the way to the top. It seems so fake because it is hard to believe how perfect everything looks. We stayed at a wonderful Mennonite Your Way home in Spiez, a beautiful small city nestled on the hillside around a bay in the Thuner See in central Switzerland. The home has such a cottage feel to it with lots of flower beds and interesting bushes surrounding it as well as extremely hospitable hosts. From there we made a variety of different excursions. A drive to Lucerne introduced us to the joys (?) of driving through the smallest villages on very windy single lane roads up to the top of steep hills while dodging oncoming traffic like tractors and buses. All because we decided to trust our GPS (Gretel) and took the shortest route to Langnau on the way back home. We had a wonderful trip to the Jaunpass and drove up more single lane windy uphill roads to a mountaintop farm that was literally at the end of the line. You couldn't drive any higher because then you'd be in orbit. At the treeline there are many dairy farms where cheese is made and the Baederalp farm is one of the best. We spent a great day hiking through the cowfields to the peak looking over endless mountain peaks from six thousand feet while being serenaded by the harmony of cowbells. At one point we realized that it was exactly nine o'clock back home and everybody was starting school. For some reason we weren't homesick.
